One (1) Senior Solution Infrastructure Engineer

Infrastructure Engineers implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services. The Solution Infrastructure Engineer designs and delivers resilient, high-performing infrastructure solutions that support business critical systems. This role aligns the strategic vision and technical execution by designing technical operations, establishing robust governance, and creating long-term technology roadmaps. The solution engineer ensures that infrastructure projects focus on technology refresh, workload consolidation, system resiliency, and business value creation while maintaining continuous operational readiness. Key duties and responsibilities The Specified Personnel will be responsible for providing the following deliverables including but not limited to: Developing and maintaining technology infrastructure roadmaps aligned with broader business and IT strategies; Providing guidance and advice to IT leadership on emerging infrastructure trends, lifecycle management, and investment opportunities; Identifying opportunities within existing infrastructure to reduce technical debt, optimize costs, and unlock business value; Designing, networking and virtualizing solutions for core enterprise business systems; Developing and oversighting technical designs, legacy system decommissionings and infrastructure consolidation initiatives; Validating architectural infrastructures, disaster recovery (DR) solutions, and failover frameworks; Building comprehensive operational design documentation to ensure seamless handovers from project deployment to operational teams; Ensuring artefacts produced are fit for purpose, adhere to the architecture standards and patterns ; Translating complex infrastructure concepts into clear, value-driven business terms for non-technical stakeholders; Collaborating with hardware and software vendors to evaluate the product, run proof-of-concepts (PoCs) to ensure optimal service delivery; Regularly review infrastructure health data to proactively recommend capacity adjustments, tuning, and structural hardening. Specified Personnel will be expected to transfer skills and knowledge to departmental staff and ensure appropriate documentation is stored in accordance with the Department’s recordkeeping policy and practices. The Specified Personnel will also be responsible for producing the following deliverables, including but not limited to: Business Specifications; Functional Specifications; High-Level Solution Designs (HLSD); Detail Level Designs (DLD); Operational Patterns,and topology diagrams; Architectural Decision Documentation; Standard Operating Procedures; Technical Specifications. All deliverables performed by the specified personnel must: be performed or delivered promptly and without delay in accordance with the timeframes notified by the buyer from time to time; and meet the assessment and performance criteria set out in any monitoring and performance assessment processes notified to the seller from time to time. Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. Availability management level 5: Provides advice and guidance on the planning, design and improvement of service and component availability. Investigates all breaches of availability targets and service non-availability and initiates remedial activities. 2. Capacity management level 4: Monitors service component capacity and initiates actions to resolve any shortfalls according to agreed procedures. 3. IT infrastructure level 4: Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. 4. Problem management level 4: Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems, processes and services. Determines problem fixes and remedies. 5. Programming/software development level 3: Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors moderately complex programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result. 6. Systems design level 5: Designs large or complex systems and undertakes impact analysis on major design options and trade-offs. Ensures that the system design balances functional and non-functional requirements. Desirable criteria 1. Stakeholder relationship management: Identifies the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups. Translates communications/stakeholder engagement strategies into specific activities and deliverables. 2. Emerging technology monitoring: Supports monitoring of the external environment and assessment of emerging technologies. Contributes to the creation of reports, technology roadmapping and the sharing of knowledge and insights. 3. Information assurance: Performs technical assessments and/or accreditation of complex or higher-risk information systems. 4. Strategic planning : Collates information and creates reports and insights to support strategy management processes.
