Lead Data Manager

Database Administrators support organisations with the sourcing, acquisition, management, integration and sharing of data to provide business insights and drive data-driven decision making. A successful applicant will be responsible for delivering solutions and support for the Australian Electoral Commission's evolving database environment consisting of SQL Server systems.  Key duties and responsibilities • Designing and deploying SQL Server solutions using Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance, including health reporting, automation initiatives and repeatable deployment capabilities within the Azure cloud. • Developing robust and scalable database solutions that apply least-privilege principles and incorporate security by design. • Optimising databases and stored procedures, including developing code routines, indexing and partitioning strategies to support high workloads and critical timeframes. • Developing and deploying Microsoft Entra authentication solutions for SQL Server, including Privileged Identity Management (PIM) and access packages. • Managing and overseeing data repositories, ensuring best practice and alignment with cyber security requirements, AEC governance and ICT doctrine. • Applying senior-level SQL Server database administration expertise to automate and design robust, reliable and maintainable data systems. • Undertaking additional responsibilities during an Electoral Event, including working additional hours and participating in on-call arrangements to meet immutable deadlines throughout the writ-to-writ timetable if required. • Contributing to backup, restore and disaster-recovery planning and testing activities. • Managing assigned work items as per established Ways of Working and producing and maintaining appropriate documentation as required. • Performing additional responsibilities as required and directed by the relevant Director/Team Leaders or a delegate. Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. • Production operational support of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and later versions and Azure SQLMI platforms and automation of SQL Server processes using PowerShell and T-SQL • T-SQL skills including performance analysis of T-SQL queries, assisting developer teams with T-SQL query techniques, database design and modelling and experience in building data pipelines and integration systems in support of operational and data warehousing needs • Proven and demonstrable skills in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services(SSIS), SQL XML, SQL JSON and PowerShell • Demonstrated experience delivering SQL Server database platforms to a high standard and ensuring ongoing compliance with AEC and ACSC requirements, including the development and management of monitoring dashboards, reporting and alerting systems. • Ability to work with cyber and security compliance teams to address emerging vulnerabilities and investigate security incidents • Experience troubleshooting production incidents using T-SQL, Query Store, SSIS, SSRS and SQL Server logs, with the ability to clearly communicate issues, root causes and business impacts to stakeholders. 2.
