The GRDC Information, Digital and Technology (IDT) team delivers a range of strategic, IDT-enabled initiatives that require effective project governance and delivery capability. The Data & Visual Analyst is responsible for developing high-quality Power BI reports and dashboards, improving reporting governance and standards, assessing data quality and suitability, applying ETL processes to prepare data for reporting, and supporting the design of a unified reporting repository. Working closely with IT and business stakeholders, the role translates business requirements into effective analytics solutions that enhance GRDC's organisational reporting capability and support informed decision-making. Key duties and responsibilities Key duties and responsibilities Develop high-quality corporate reports and dashboards using Power BI and other analytics and visualisation tools. Design and build ETL/data preparation processes (dataflows, pipelines, notebooks) within Microsoft Fabric to prepare data for reporting and analytics use. Analyse data to identify constraints, quality issues or limitations, and provide design advice to ensure reports are accurate and not misleading. Lead and facilitate requirements-gathering workshops with business stakeholders, translating business needs into practical, well-scoped analytics and reporting solutions. Define and apply GRDC standards and best practice for report development, data modelling and reporting governance. Contribute to the design and refinement of a unified reporting repository, and develop reports to the agreed GRDC standard. Work within a multi-disciplinary team — including the CIO, Head of IT Operations, business analysts and other GRDC IDT team members — to deliver identified reporting and analytics requirements. Represent GRDC IDT to other business groups, supporting the progression of the 2027–29 IDT strategy. Other duties as required.   Functional Skills The Visual/Data Analyst will demonstrate the ability to: Translate ambiguous or high-level business requirements into clear data and reporting solutions. Design intuitive, well-structured dashboards and reports that communicate insight clearly to non-technical audiences. Assess data quality, identify limitations, and advise on appropriate presentation to avoid misleading conclusions. Apply data modelling principles (e.g. star schema, relationships, measures) to build scalable, maintainable reporting solutions. Contribute to and help enforce reporting standards, naming conventions and governance practices. Work independently to scope, build and iterate on reporting solutions against business timelines. Familiarity with data visualisation/UX design principles to ensure reports are clear, accessible, and intuitive for end users is an advantage. Technical Skills The Visual/Data Analyst will possess: Power BI — report and dashboard development, DAX, data modelling, Power Query (M), Row-Level Security (RLS). Microsoft Fabric — dataflows, Lakehouses, notebooks, and Deployment Pipelines; working knowledge of OneLake and the broader Fabric ecosystem is highly regarded. ETL / data preparation — building and maintaining data transformation processes from source systems into a reporting-ready structure. SQL — querying and validating data across relational and lakehouse sources. Version control and release management for BI content (e.g. Git-based deployment pipelines) is desirable. Exposure to enterprise data sources (e.g. ERP, CRM, ITSM platforms) and connecting these into a unified reporting environment is an advantage.
