Job description

The Attorney-General's Department (AGD) is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of a strategic cloud migration program that will transition workloads from the Department's on-premises Storage Area Network (SAN) and associated infrastructure to Microsoft Azure.  This is a high-profile technology transformation initiative that supports the Department's ICT Strategy, Whole of Government (WoG) cloud direction, Essential Eight maturity requirements and the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM). The project includes migration of the Department's end-of-life SAN, modernisation of supporting infrastructure, data migration activities, SQL Server migration, operational monitoring uplift and associated decommissioning of legacy infrastructure.  The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the project from initiation through to operational transition and closure, ensuring outcomes are achieved within agreed scope, schedule, budget and quality parameters. The Project Manager will work closely with business stakeholders, technical specialists, vendors and executive governance forums to deliver a secure, resilient and cost-effective cloud solution.  The role requires demonstrated experience delivering complex cloud migration programs within enterprise or government environments, together with practical expertise in Microsoft Azure, FinOps and ICT infrastructure transformation. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating across both strategic and operational levels, providing leadership to multidisciplinary teams while maintaining strong governance, financial management and stakeholder engagement.  The Project Manager will be expected to establish effective project governance, proactively manage project risks and dependencies, oversee vendor performance, and ensure the Department realises the intended operational, financial and security benefits of the migration.  Strong communication and presentation skills are essential, as the successful candidate will regularly prepare executive reporting and present to governance boards, steering committees and senior executives. Key duties and responsibilities The successful candidate will:  1. Lead the planning, governance and delivery of the Department's Azure cloud migration project.  2. Develop and maintain the Project Management Plan, schedule, budget, RAID register, benefits realisation plan and other project artefacts.  3. Manage delivery of the following key project outcomes:  a) Migration of workloads from the Department's Storage Area Network (SAN) to Microsoft Azure.  b) Migration and rationalisation of data to reduce legacy data holdings.  c) Delivery of major security patching activities where required.  d) Windows Server 2016 uplift and associated SQL Server migration.  e) Modernisation of operational monitoring capability, including replacement of SolarWinds.  4. Coordinate internal ICT teams, vendors and delivery partners to achieve project milestones.  5. Develop and implement transition, cutover, operational readiness and legacy infrastructure decommissioning plans.  6. Manage project risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies, ensuring timely escalation where required.  7. Ensure compliance with Australian Government security requirements, including the Essential Eight, Information Security Manual (ISM) and applicable Whole of Government policies.  8. Manage procurement activities and vendor performance where required.  9. Develop and maintain project financial forecasts and budgets.  10. Apply FinOps principles to support effective cloud financial management, including forecasting, optimisation, cost transparency and ongoing operational cost management.  11. Monitor project expenditure and provide accurate financial reporting to governance committees.  12. Prepare high-quality executive reports, briefing material, committee papers and presentations.  13. Present project status, risks and recommendations to Project Boards, Steering Committees and senior executives.  14. Manage stakeholder engagement across business and technical areas to ensure successful adoption of project outcomes.  15. Ensure appropriate change management, operational handover and knowledge transfer activities are completed.  16. Deliver the project through to formal closure, including completion of project documentation, lessons learned and infrastructure decommissioning activities.
