Job description

The Department has a requirement to strengthen its Software Asset Management (SAM) capability to support effective software procurement, licensing compliance, vendor management and governance across an increasingly complex software environment. The Software Asset Manager (Microsoft Licensing Specialist) will provide expert Software Asset Management, software licensing, governance and commercial advisory services to the Department's Software Asset Management Team within the ICT Procurement Team. The role will be responsible for managing software licence compliance, optimising software investments, supporting software procurement activities, improving SAM maturity and providing specialist Microsoft licensing expertise across complex software environments. The successful candidate will work closely with ICT, procurement, finance, contract management and business stakeholders to ensure software assets are effectively governed, compliant, and aligned with business requirements and whole-of-life cost considerations. Support the Department's transition to new Microsoft licensing arrangements, including licence allocation, entitlement management, stakeholder engagement, reporting, and optimisation activities. Key duties and responsibilities Manage software licence compliance, entitlement, deployment and consumption reporting. Conduct licence reconciliations, optimisation reviews and Effective Licence Position (ELP) assessments. Provide specialist advice on Microsoft licensing, including Microsoft 365, Azure and Enterprise Agreement arrangements. Lead software audit readiness activities and support vendor compliance reviews. Support software procurement, contract renewals and vendor negotiations. Develop and improve Software Asset Management governance, processes and documentation. Identify and implement opportunities for software cost savings, cost avoidance and licence optimisation. Prepare reports and recommendations on software licensing risks, compliance and commercial outcomes. Engage with ICT, procurement, finance and business stakeholders to support software asset management objectives. Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. Software Asset Management Experience Demonstrated experience delivering Software Asset Management services in complex ICT environments. 2. Microsoft Licensing Expertise Demonstrated experience managing and advising on Microsoft licensing, including Microsoft 365, Azure and Enterprise Agreements. 3. Compliance and Audit Management Experience conducting licence reconciliations, compliance reviews, audit readiness activities and Effective Licence Position (ELP) assessments. 4. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Strong stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills. 5. Demonstrated experience managing software licensing initiatives, including licence optimisation, contract renewals, licensing model transitions, and implementation of new licensing arrangements.
