Solution Architect

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) enables access to quality skills, training, and employment to support Australians find secure work in fair, productive and safe workplaces – supporting individuals, businesses and our nation to prosper.   The department is seeking an experienced Solution Architect to meet emerging needs of the department and business areas.  In the department a Solution Architect is accountable for the delivery of an end-to-end solution architecture. These solution architectures are used to guide a project on the required architecture based on business requirements and outcomes, in collaboration with Service Design. Some of the deliverables will include design artefacts as required within the solution project, alignment with standards and principles and alignment with departmental and Whole-of-Government direction. This role works in collaboration with various other Architect domains, as well as technical SMEs and business areas. Key duties and responsibilities As a Solution Architect, you will be required to: Design and guide solution architecture for the delivery of a modern and stable architected solution that meets business outcomes using Azure cloud native services and functions. Ensuring solutions are secure, reliable, performant, cost-effective, and enable operational excellence. Collaborate with cross-functional business and technical teams to cost, design and oversee implementation of solutions. This can include assisting guidance of infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and non-functional requirements. Provide architectural guidance and leadership for sound decision-making by providing expert advice that considers experience impacts, workforce skills, business processes and the longer-term strategic roadmap. Contribute and deliver architectural principles, patterns, standards, and roadmaps – including assessing architectural and business risk.  Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and contributes to continuous improvements and opportunities. Collaborate with Architect domain leads, Enterprise and Data architects to validate and input into solution architecture deliverables. Deliver various required solution architecture design artefacts - not limited to high-level designs, conceptual designs, detailed designs and option/impact analysis papers **Please note that DEWR will not be extending this opportunity to any additional Sellers* Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. Technical experience delivering enterprise-class IT Solution Architecture using Microsoft technology stacks, including Microsoft Azure and integrations with various cloud and on-premises systems. 2. Experience demonstrating architectural leadership and communication of architectural designs and decisions to various stakeholder groups, including senior management, in writing, in person and via Video Conferencing. 3. The ability to work in a fast-paced agile delivery environment with delivery teams, and other stakeholders, to design and implement complex IT systems, with emphasis on timeframes, quality, and governance procedures. 4. Experience documenting architecture solution design artefacts. 5. Experience in the use of DevOps and Agile practices and processes, with knowledge of SDLC and cloud native practices. Desirable criteria 1. Knowledge and understanding of Whole-of-Government architectural direction and standards. 2. Experience in using Microsoft’s Azure Well-Architected Framework, and Microsoft’s Cloud Adoption Framework.
