Senior SAP Basis Software Developer

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is seeking a highly experienced Team Lead – SAP BASIS and System Administration / Senior SAP BASIS Specialist to provide operational, project and technical governance support across the Department’s enterprise SAP landscape. The role is responsible for the administration, security, performance, availability and continuous improvement of SAP platforms including SAP ECC 6.0, SAP BW, SAP GRC, SAP HANA, SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Integration Suite and associated SAP cloud services. The successful contractor will provide senior technical leadership and hands-on SAP BASIS expertise, ensuring alignment with departmental ICT governance, cyber security obligations, change and release management processes, and strategic SAP transformation initiatives, including SAP cloud adoption and future SAP S/4HANA programs. The role will work closely with business stakeholders, Shared Services providers, infrastructure service providers, cyber security teams, project delivery teams, Digital Operations, Enterprise Architecture and SAP vendors to support ongoing stability, compliance, security and optimisation of the SAP environment. The successful candidate will have at least fifteen years’ experience in SAP BASIS administration within large and complex SAP environments, extensive experience supporting SAP ECC, SAP BW, SAP GRC, SAP HANA, SAP BTP, SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP cloud technologies, and proven capability in technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, vendor management, enterprise SAP operations, platform upgrades, integrations, cloud services and large-scale SAP transformation initiatives. Experience operating within highly regulated environments with strong governance, audit, privacy and cyber security requirements is essential. Key duties and responsibilities Provide technical leadership across SAP BASIS, system administration, platform administration, transport management, cloud services and operational support activities. Act as the technical lead for SAP BASIS and System Administration activities within ERP Technologies. Mentor and guide departmental technical staff, service providers and project teams, including facilitating knowledge transfer to APS staff to support long-term operational sustainability and capability uplift. Review technical designs, implementation approaches, operational procedures, support models and governance artefacts. Support workload planning, risk management, technical prioritisation, platform roadmap activities and SAP platform strategy. Develop and maintain technical standards, support documentation, operational procedures and governance artefacts. Contribute to SAP platform strategy, architecture planning, cloud adoption, modernisation and SAP S/4HANA transformation initiatives. Provide technical advice and recommendations to senior management on SAP platform risks, opportunities and improvement initiatives. Support procurement, vendor engagement, technical evaluation activities and commercial discussions relating to SAP technologies and services. Manage competing operational and project delivery priorities within complex ICT environments. Support SAP system monitoring, performance tuning, transport management, platform administration, upgrades, migrations and technical refresh activities. Support SAP BTP administration, Cloud ALM, Integration Suite, Cloud Connector, Transport Management Service, CTS+, gCTS, API Management, Event Mesh, SAP Build and automation services. Manage BTP entitlements, subaccounts, destinations, certificates and connectivity services. Support enterprise integrations between SAP and non-SAP environments using REST APIs, OData services, web services, SFTP, middleware and integration platforms. Support integration with applications such as Concur, eRecruit, CRM, Identity Management platforms and departmental business systems. Administer SAP HANA, relational databases, Linux operating systems, high availability and disaster recovery environments, including backup, restore, monitoring and capacity management activities. Support SAP security architecture, Single Sign-On, SNC, Kerberos authentication, certificate management and cloud authentication services. Support vulnerability remediation, security patching, technical hardening and compliance with Australian Government cyber security requirements, including the ISM, Essential Eight, PSPF and IRAP assessment processes. Support SAP change and release management, Change Advisory Boards, transport governance and ServiceNow change processes. Prepare implementation plans, impact assessments, testing evidence, rollback strategies and post-implementation reviews. Support SAP licensing, entitlement management, subscription and cloud consumption models, software asset compliance, renewals and software acquisition activities. Work independently and collaboratively within a small specialised team, communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and contribute to cross-functional workshops and design sessions.
