Job description
GRDC is seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to support business process improvement, service enablement and delivery activities across corporate and enabling functions. The successful candidate will work with business stakeholders, IDT, delivery teams and vendors to analyse business needs, document clear requirements and support practical implementation approaches that improve governance, efficiency, controls and user experience. The role requires strong analytical, facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex business problems into clear process designs, requirements, decisions and implementation support material. Key duties and responsibilities Key Responsibilities Service Enablement and Strategic Alignment: Lead structured discovery with corporate and enabling teams (e.g., HR, Procurement, Finance Governance) to scope problems, confirm outcomes, define success measures and recommend an approach. Contribute to planning and prioritisation of corporate process improvement initiatives by providing evidence-based options, dependencies, risk considerations and impact assessments. Establish and apply fit-for-purpose analysis standards, governance and artefact templates to support consistent ways of working across projects and business-as-usual improvement. Benefits Realisation and Outcome Measurement Partner with stakeholders to define measurable process outcomes and the indicators used to track them. Maintain benefits traceability from problem statement through to implementation and post change verification; recommend refinements where evidence shows outcomes are not being realised. Business Process Design and Governance: Analyse and map current-state processes and pain points for critical corporate and enabling services; design future-state processes that clarify roles, decision points, handoffs, controls and customer experience. Develop and maintain process artefacts such as SOPs/work instructions, RACI, controls matrices, business rules, forms and standard templates to enable consistent execution. Facilitate agreement on governance, policy/procedure alignment and process ownership, including escalation pathways and decision rights for ongoing management of critical processes. Where technology enablement is required, collaborate with IDT and vendors to ensure process intent is reflected in configuration/design, and that data, reporting and controls support the agreed outcomes. Requirements Elicitation and Analysis: Elicit, analyse and document business requirements using appropriate techniques (workshops, interviews, observation, document analysis), ensuring requirements are unambiguous, testable and aligned to process outcomes. Develop user stories, acceptance criteria, service blueprints or journeys and a requirements traceability matrix to support delivery, testing and acceptance Stakeholder Engagement and Facilitation: Facilitate workshops and decision forums, synthesising inputs into clear options, recommendations and decisions that can be actioned by delivery and operational teams. Build strong working relationships with corporate and enabling teams and IDT, acting as a trusted advisor who balances stakeholder needs, risk, compliance and organisational capability. Prepare clear documentation and executive-ready communications (briefs, papers, process packs, training/support materials) to enable adoption and sustainable operation. Assurance, Readiness and Implementation Support: Ensure quality of requirements and process design through reviews, validation, stakeholder sign-off and traceability, confirming that controls and compliance obligations are addressed. Support test planning and execution (including UAT) by developing scenarios, assisting defect triage and verifying that the implemented solution meets agreed business needs. Partner with change and communications resources to develop adoption plans, including handover to process owners and service teams. Continuous Improvement and Process Stewardship Provide ongoing support to process owners by capturing improvement opportunities, monitoring process performance, and maintaining process documentation so that critical business processes remain current, usable and fit-for-purpose. Essential Skills and Experience Functional Skills Senior Business Analysis: Expert ability to elicit, analyse, document and manage complex requirements, including ambiguity and competing priorities. Business Process Design: Strong capability in mapping, redesigning and embedding end-to-end business processes, including roles, controls, measures and governance. Facilitation and Workshop Design: Ability to plan and run effective workshops that drive shared understanding, decisions and commitment. Documentation and Artefacts: Proficient in producing high-quality process maps, SOPs, business rules, user stories, acceptance criteria, decision papers and traceability matrices. Delivery Enablement: Ability to support delivery planning, backlog refinement, prioritisation and dependency management in partnership with product/project leads. Data and Insights: Ability to interpret data to identify process issues/opportunities, define measures, and support benefits realisation and reporting. Process Modelling: Ability to create clear process models (e.g., BPMN-style flows), service blueprints and use cases that can be understood across the organisation. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify issues and develop effective solutions. Stakeholder Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Change and Adoption: Experience supporting change impacts, readiness, training and transition so process changes are embedded and sustained. Strategic Thinking: Ability to align technology solutions with business strategy and identify opportunities for improvement. Business and enabling systems knowledge (professional business knowledge of): Enterprise Applications: Understanding of common corporate/enabling systems (e.g., ERP/finance, HRIS, procurement, document management) and how they support end-to-end processes. Delivery Methodologies: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and/or waterfall delivery, and the role of analysis within each (backlog, refinement, acceptance, governance). Process Controls and Compliance: Applied knowledge of risk/control considerations and record-keeping obligations relevant to corporate processes (e.g., approvals, delegations, auditability). Data Concepts: Understanding of master data, data quality, and reporting concepts sufficient to define information needs and support meaningful measures. Information Flows and Integrations: Ability to understand and document interfaces, data flows and handoffs between systems and teams to support end-to-end process outcomes. Analysis Tooling: Proficiency with tools to support analysis and delivery (e.g., Microsoft 365, Visio or similar, Jira/DevOps boards, and documentation repositories). Testing and Quality Assurance: Understanding of software testing methods, including unit, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Technology Awareness: General awareness of cloud services and modern platforms sufficient to inform requirements, constraints and non-functional needs. Privacy and Security Awareness: Understanding of information security and privacy considerations to ensure requirements and process designs support safe handling of information. Soft Skills Ability to analyse complex business problems and develop effective solutions. Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information using a diverse range of media, including demonstrating software solutions, to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to manage varying work cadences and instinctively operate immersively within teams to develop and support capability without becoming an effort overhead upon the business Demonstrate a service-oriented approach, motivated, good initiative and a self-starter.
