Senior Software Engineer

GRDC is seeking a forward-thinking Senior Software Engineer to provide senior software engineering capability across GRDC's digital products, platforms and projects. The role requires an experienced software engineering professional who can translate approved architecture, business requirements and product objectives into secure, maintainable and production-ready software solutions. The position will play a key role in designing, developing and supporting modern digital services across web, API, integration, cloud and data platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with architects, product owners, business analysts, security specialists and delivery partners to ensure solutions remain aligned with GRDC's technology direction, engineering standards and operational requirements. The role may also provide technical leadership, mentoring and coordination responsibilities when supporting delivery teams, major initiatives or complex technical workstreams. Key duties and responsibilities Functional Responsibilities: Design, develop, maintain and support high-quality software solutions across digital products, platforms and services. Translate approved architecture, business requirements and product objectives into practical technical designs and production-ready software. Develop secure, scalable, maintainable and operationally supportable applications, APIs and integration services. Contribute to the enhancement, modernisation and sustainability of GRDC digital products and platforms. Troubleshoot and resolve complex software, integration and production issues. Collaborate with architects, product owners, business analysts, testers and security specialists to deliver successful outcomes. Participate in technical planning, estimation, release planning and delivery activities. Conduct and contribute to code reviews, testing activities and engineering assurance practices. Maintain technical documentation, implementation artefacts and engineering decision records. Identify technical debt, security risks, performance bottlenecks and opportunities for continuous improvement. Apply DevOps, automation and modern software engineering practices to improve delivery quality and efficiency. Use approved AI-assisted engineering capabilities to support development, testing, analysis and documentation activities. Work collaboratively with vendors and delivery partners where external development capability is involved. When required, act as a technical lead for projects or workstreams by coordinating technical activities, mentoring engineers and supporting technical decision-making. Contribute to knowledge sharing, engineering capability uplift and adoption of consistent development practices. The role is expected to support GRDC's adoption of modern engineering practices, cloud-native development, DevOps automation and responsible AI-assisted software delivery while maintaining alignment with approved architecture and security requirements. Technical Competencies:  Software Engineering and Application Development Significant experience developing, maintaining and supporting modern software solutions across frontend, backend, API and cloud technologies. Strong ability to design, develop and support maintainable, secure and scalable software solutions. Experience translating architecture and business requirements into practical technical designs and production-ready implementations. Strong understanding of software design principles, reusable components, modular architecture and maintainable application development. Ability to identify, diagnose and resolve complex software and integration issues. Modern Web, API and Integration Development Strong experience developing web applications, APIs and integration solutions using modern development frameworks and technologies. Experience implementing secure APIs, service-to-service integration patterns and enterprise integration solutions. Understanding of authentication, authorisation, monitoring, versioning, lifecycle management and integration governance considerations. Ability to design and implement reliable solutions that support interoperability across enterprise platforms. Cloud Engineering and Microsoft Technologies Strong understanding of cloud-native development and Microsoft technology platforms. Experience developing and supporting applications using Azure services, platform capabilities and cloud-based deployment patterns. Understanding of cloud security, resilience, scalability, monitoring and operational support requirements. Ability to work effectively within architecture guardrails, cloud governance controls and platform standards. DevOps, Automation and Delivery Practices Experience working within CI/CD environments and modern DevOps delivery practices. Understanding of source control, automated testing, release pipelines, deployment automation and environment management. Ability to contribute to repeatable, reliable and governed delivery processes. Experience participating in release planning, deployment activities and operational support practices. Security and Secure Software Development Strong understanding of secure-by-design software engineering principles. Experience implementing security controls relating to identity, authentication, authorisation, secrets management, logging and monitoring. Ability to incorporate security requirements into application design, development, testing and deployment activities. Understanding of cyber security, privacy and information protection requirements within enterprise systems. Data, Analytics and Digital Platforms Understanding of data integration, analytics platforms and data-driven application development. Ability to develop and support solutions that integrate with enterprise data services, reporting platforms and digital products. Understanding of data quality, governance and lifecycle management considerations. AI-Assisted Engineering Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools to support software development, testing, documentation and technical analysis. Ability to apply AI-assisted capabilities responsibly within organisational governance, architecture and security requirements. Ability to validate, review and assure AI-generated outputs before implementation. Technical Leadership and Engineering Assurance Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance on complex projects and initiatives when required. Experience conducting code reviews and promoting engineering quality standards. Ability to mentor engineers, share knowledge and uplift team capability. Ability to communicate technical decisions, implementation risks, dependencies and design considerations clearly to relevant stakeholders. Ability to support technical coordination across multidisciplinary delivery teams without requiring formal people-management responsibilities.
