Job description

The Microsoft Cloud Specialist is required to provide deep technical expertise across specific Microsoft 365 services, applications, and cloud capabilities that support the Department’s Modern Workplace initiative.  The role provides specialist advice, configuration support, troubleshooting, and service optimisation across Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Intune, Defender, Entra ID, compliance features, and related SaaS platforms. The role supports the implementation of security, compliance, and data protection controls, including Data Loss Prevention, retention, archiving, eDiscovery, monitoring, and policy configuration across Microsoft cloud environments. The role contributes to targeted uplift activities, automation, application deployment, endpoint management, and service improvement initiatives where specialist knowledge is required to resolve complex issues or improve service maturity. The role works with cloud engineers, technical leads, cyber security, vendors, and business stakeholders to provide subject matter expertise, support knowledge transfer, and ensure services remain secure, reliable, and aligned to operational requirements. Key duties and responsibilities Mentor and provide technical expertise to team members, providing guidance and support to ensure effective team performance. Ensure timely delivery, security, compliance, and minimising risk to operations. Ensuring monitoring tools and processes exist to ensure continuous availability and performance of infrastructure, and accessibility of this information to relevant stakeholders such as those involved in ITSM, performance monitoring, and capacity management activities. Work closely with Architecture and Cyber Security to: Develop strategies and roadmaps that are aligned with the Department’s long-term direction. Plan and implement a holistic approach to compliance. Ensure services and tools are fit for purpose and effective. Ensure that best practice and Departmental standards are applied and managed. Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical team members. Communicate and negotiate technical concepts with non-technical staff effectively. Ensure technical solutions are in line with business requirements; and contribute towards knowledge and skills transfer.
