Senior Data Engineer

Role/s: 1 x APS6 Data Engineer The APS6 Data Engineer is a senior member of the Data Services team and provides technical leadership across enterprise data initiatives. The role is responsible for hands-on development, technical design, data modelling, code review, and implementation activities across enterprise data platforms. The Data Engineer works closely with business stakeholders, architects, analysts, developers, testers, and support teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and maintainable data solutions while driving continuous improvement across data engineering practices. Rate: The proposed rate should reflect candidate's skills and experience against the Evaluation Criteria. Candidates that do not demonstrate these criteria will not be assessed. Candidates should be aware that rates may be negotiated further as part of the selection process. Citizenship: As part of the eligibility and suitability requirement, NDIA seeks Labour Hire Workers who are Australian citizens only. Successful candidates will be required to furnish valid evidence of citizenship during the Pre-engagement Check. Labour Hire Licence: Applicable for ACT, VIC and QLD: Labour hire licences are required in the state that specified personnel are being contracted. Key duties and responsibilities Develop, maintain, and optimise enterprise data pipelines, ETL processes, and analytical code. Define and maintain data modelling, peer review, development, and release standards. Lead technical implementation activities from requirements analysis through to deployment and operational support. Develop and maintain SQL analytical and ETL code supporting enterprise reporting and analytics. Optimise and tune SQL code to improve performance and efficiency. Produce and maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries, and implementation artefacts. Conduct peer reviews of code, data models, and technical designs. Analyse and translate business requirements into technical solutions and data assets. Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, testers, and support teams to deliver data solutions. Facilitate knowledge transfer and contribute to team capability uplift initiatives. Support backlog prioritisation, work queue management, and delivery planning activities. Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and delivery frameworks. (Note: responsibilities may change based on business priorities.) Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. Demonstrated experience developing and supporting enterprise data warehouse and data integration solutions. 2. Strong expertise in SQL development, optimisation, tuning, and code review. 3. Demonstrated competency in at least two of the following technologies: MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks. 4. High level programming capability including experience with SQL and programming languages such as Python, SAS, R, or Java. 5. Ability to read, interpret, and apply data models, technical specifications, and solution designs. 6. Experience working within DevOps environments and applying version control and software delivery practices. Desirable criteria 1. Experience working with AWS cloud technologies, including services such as S3, Glue, or similar cloud-based data platforms. 2. Experience using SAS, Microsoft Excel, and enterprise reporting or analytics platforms. 3. Experience working with metadata-driven or model-driven development frameworks. 4. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related discipline, and/or experience working in Agile delivery environments.
