Job description

Role: 1 x EL1 Agent Experience (AX) Lead The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is undertaking major work programs to deliver innovative, fit-for-purpose digital solutions that improve the National Disability Insurance Scheme. The NDIA seeks an Accessibility Experience (AX) Lead to join the Digital team within the DDI Branch. This role is responsible for championing accessibility and inclusive design across the NDIA's digital channels, ensuring participants, providers and partners can effectively access and use digital services regardless of their abilities, circumstances or assistive technologies. Working across business, product, design and technology teams, the Accessibility Experience Lead will establish accessibility standards, provide expert guidance and embed accessibility throughout the delivery lifecycle. The successful candidate will combine strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in digital products, design systems and component libraries, helping to position the NDIA as a leader in accessible and inclusive digital service delivery. Supplier Briefing: A supplier briefing will be held for this role on Wednesday 30 October 2026 at 10:30am AEST – meeting details will be posted in the “Q&A” section of the RFQ for invited Sellers only. Rate: The proposed rate should reflect candidate's skills and experience against the Evaluation Criteria. Candidates that do not demonstrate these criteria will not be assessed. Candidates should be aware that rates may be negotiated further as part of the selection process. Citizenship: As part of the eligibility and suitability requirement, NDIA seeks Labour Hire Workers who are Australian citizens only. Successful candidates will be required to furnish valid evidence of citizenship during the Pre-engagement Check. Labour Hire Licence: Applicable for ACT, VIC and QLD: Labour hire licences are required in the state that specified personnel are being contracted. Key duties and responsibilities Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Lead accessibility and inclusive design practices across digital products and services, ensuring accessibility requirements are embedded throughout the delivery lifecycle. Establish, maintain and continuously improve accessibility standards, guidance, testing approaches and delivery practices across multidisciplinary teams. Collaborate with designers, developers, architects and product teams to review, influence and improve user interfaces, reusable components, design systems and digital experiences. Contribute directly to accessibility improvements within component libraries, Storybook implementations, design systems and digital products where required. Develop and lead accessibility testing programmes, including engagement with people with disability, assistive technology users and representative user groups to better understand real-world user experiences. Drive continuous improvement and innovation in accessibility practices, ensuring the NDIA delivers accessible digital services that go beyond compliance and provide meaningful outcomes for users. Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a response to each criterion. Each response is limited to 3000 characters. Essential criteria 1. Demonstrated experience leading accessibility, inclusive design or digital user experience initiatives within complex digital service environments. 2. Strong knowledge and practical experience applying accessibility standards, assistive technologies, inclusive design principles and contemporary accessibility practices across digital products and services. 3. Demonstrated experience conducting accessibility reviews, testing and remediation activities, including working directly with users and assistive technologies to validate accessibility outcomes. 4. Experience collaborating with designers, developers and delivery teams to influence the implementation of accessible components, interfaces, design systems or digital experiences. 5. Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, with the ability to advocate for accessibility outcomes and influence multidisciplinary teams. 6. Demonstrated ability to develop organisational capability through coaching, mentoring, standards development, training programmes and continuous improvement initiatives. Desirable criteria 1. Experience contributing directly to frontend implementations, design systems, Storybook libraries, component frameworks or reusable user interface patterns. 2. Experience establishing or managing accessibility testing panels, communities of practice or user engagement programmes involving people with disability. 3. Experience working within government, regulated or highly governed environments. 4. Experience leveraging contemporary AI-assisted tools to support accessibility testing, content analysis, user research or digital experience improvements.
