Senior API Automation Test Analysts

Role/s: 1 x EL1 API Tester The EL1 API Tester (Labour Hire) will provide specialist testing and quality assurance capability across complex ICT programs and projects, with a primary focus on API, integration and backend services. Working within multidisciplinary ICT delivery teams, the role will design, develop and execute comprehensive API testing to ensure services and system integrations are reliable, secure and meet business and technical requirements. The role will contribute to test strategy and approach, automation capability and continuous improvement of testing practices across the delivery lifecycle. The successful candidate will have strong technical testing expertise, analytical and problem-solving capability, and the ability to work collaboratively with developers, architects, business analysts and other technical stakeholders to identify and resolve complex quality issues. Successful candidates will be required to furnish valid evidence of citizenship during the Pre-engagement Check. Labour Hire Licence: Applicable for ACT, VIC and QLD: Labour hire licences are required in the state that specified personnel are being contracted. Key duties and responsibilities Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Design, develop and execute comprehensive test approaches, scenarios and test cases for APIs, integration services and backend systems. Perform functional, integration, regression, end-to-end and negative testing of APIs and associated system integrations. Develop, maintain and enhance automated API test suites and reusable testing frameworks to improve testing efficiency and coverage. Validate API requests, responses, data structures, business rules, error handling and integration behaviour against technical specifications and requirements. Test RESTful APIs and other relevant service and integration technologies using contemporary API testing tools and frameworks. Analyse API specifications, solution designs, user stories and acceptance criteria to determine appropriate testing scope, coverage and approach. Work closely with developers, solution architects, integration specialists and other delivery team members to identify, investigate and resolve complex defects and integration issues. Identify, document, prioritise and track defects through to resolution and provide clear evidence of testing outcomes. Support the integration of automated API testing into CI/CD pipelines to enable early and repeatable quality assurance throughout the delivery lifecycle. Contribute to test planning, estimation, risk assessment and reporting, providing specialist advice on API and integration testing matters. Analyse test results and quality metrics to identify emerging risks, trends and areas requiring additional assurance. Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of testing standards, automation frameworks, tools and quality engineering practices across ICT delivery teams. Mentor and provide technical guidance to testers and other delivery team members where required. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. Demonstrated extensive experience testing APIs, integration services and backend systems within complex ICT delivery environments. 2. Strong experience designing and implementing automated API testing using contemporary tools and frameworks. 3. Demonstrated experience testing RESTful APIs, including validation of requests, responses, data, authentication, error handling and integration behaviour. 4. Strong understanding of software testing principles and experience across functional, integration, regression, end-to-end and negative testing. 5. Demonstrated ability to analyse complex technical requirements, API specifications and solution designs and translate them into comprehensive testing approaches and coverage. 6. Strong analytical, troubleshooting and stakeholder engagement skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with developers, architects and multidisciplinary ICT delivery teams. Desirable criteria 1. Experience with API testing and automation tools such as Postman, REST Assured, SoapUI or comparable technologies. 2. Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and contemporary DevOps environments. 3. Experience with performance, security or resilience testing of APIs and integration services. 4. Experience working within large or complex Australian Government ICT programs or transformation initiatives.
