Senior Infrastructure Engineer

The CTDOB is looking for a Server and Infrastructure Engineer to join the Server and Infrastructure Support team, which operates within the Cloud and Infrastructure Operations Section. This role reports to the Assistant Director Server and Infrastructure Support and is tasked with managing AEC’s on premise and hybrid systems and services to ensure smooth operations of infrastructure services, focusing on the day-to-day operations of AEC systems. The Server and Infrastructure Support team is responsible for administering and monitoring on-premises servers. Their work includes Managing user and service accounts, overseeing bulk email and SMS distribution, configuration and management of virtualisation platforms, storage area networks, backup solutions, telephony services, and offering Level 3 support for other applications, systems, and services. The team also performs ongoing maintenance and performance tuning to guarantee that systems remain reliable, secure, and meet organisational compliance standards. This position provides a unique chance to play a vital role in the business-as-usual monitoring and improvement of AEC infrastructure and server operations, both essential for successful electoral events. The job requires dealing with complex and sensitive tasks independently and regularly collaborating with other departments at the AEC, such as business units, program teams, and Cyber Assurance. The successful candidate must hold Negative Vetting Level 1 AGSVA Security Clearance. Key duties and responsibilities This role is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and support of the AEC's infrastructure platforms and services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Design, implement, maintain and support enterprise infrastructure services, including compute, virtualisation, storage, backup, networking, and identity management platforms. Monitor and maintain infrastructure performance, availability and capacity, ensuring systems remain secure, reliable and fit for purpose. Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure incidents and problems, working collaboratively with internal teams, vendors and service providers to restore services and prevent recurrence. Develop and maintain infrastructure automation solutions using scripting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to improve operational efficiency and consistency. Implement and maintain system upgrades, security patches, configuration changes and infrastructure lifecycle activities in accordance with organisational standards and change management processes. Contribute to the development and maintenance of operational documentation, technical standards, support procedures and infrastructure designs. Support the delivery of infrastructure projects, technology refresh activities and service improvement initiatives, ensuring solutions meet business, security and operational requirements. Collaborate with cloud, cyber security, network and application teams to support integrated and secure technology services. Participate in incident, problem and change management processes and contribute to on-call support arrangements for critical infrastructure services. Perform additional duties and undertake other responsibilities consistent with the classification and operational requirements of the organisation. Essential criteria 1. • Demonstrated experience administering and supporting enterprise infrastructure services across on-premises and hybrid environments, including server, virtualisation, storage, backup, networking and identity platforms. • Demonstrated experience deploying, testing, patching and maintaining infrastructure services within a large-scale enterprise ICT environment, including troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues. • Demonstrated understanding of infrastructure security, risk and compliance requirements, including vulnerability remediation, patch management and adherence to operational standards. • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with technical and business stakeholders to deliver infrastructure outcomes, communicate technical concepts, and produce quality documentation. • Demonstrated experience supporting Incident, Problem and Change Management processes within a production ICT environment. • This role is Canberra-based. 2. Desirable criteria 1. • Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft Azure services and hybrid cloud environments, including automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies. • Demonstrated experience with cloud telephony, unified communications or collaboration platforms. • Demonstrated experience using infrastructure management and vulnerability management tools such as Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE), Ivanti, or similar enterprise platforms. • Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange and identity management services. • Demonstrated knowledge of Australian Government cyber security frameworks, including the ISM, PSPF and Essential Eight. • Demonstrated knowledge of IT service management and enterprise architecture frameworks such as ITIL and TOGAF, supported by relevant qualifications.
