Lead Data Engineer

As the Manager, Data Engineering, you will be accountable for the leadership, management and delivery of Data Engineering services, capabilities and initiatives. The role leads multidisciplinary teams responsible for the design, development, implementation and support of the Agency's data and analytics platforms, ensuring solutions are secure, reliable, scalable and aligned with business and strategic objectives. Operating in a complex technology environment, the position is responsible for managing delivery priorities, developing team capability, maintaining stakeholder relationships and ensuring the successful delivery and operation of data platform services. The role works collaboratively with architecture, reporting and analytics, security and business teams to deliver sustainable and high-quality outcomes for the Agency. The position contributes to the evolution of the Agency's cloud-based data and analytics environment, including Microsoft Azure, Databricks and supporting platform technologies, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration and operational excellence. Key duties and responsibilities Leadership & Delivery Lead Data Engineering teams responsible for the delivery, support and continuous improvement of data platform capabilities and services. Manage team workload, priorities and resource allocation to ensure successful delivery of strategic initiatives and operational support activities. Accountable for delivery outcomes, team performance and achievement of agreed objectives. Foster a high-performing team culture focused on collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement and customer outcomes. Build capability through coaching, mentoring, performance management and career development. Operational Management Oversee the operational performance, support and maintenance of data and analytics platform services. Ensure appropriate operational processes, support arrangements and service management practices are in place. Lead incident response, problem management and service improvement activities within the team. Monitor platform health, operational risks and service performance, implementing improvements where required. Ensure delivery activities meet security, privacy, governance and operational requirements. Delivery & Stakeholder Engagement Lead the planning and delivery of complex initiatives involving data platforms, cloud technologies, integrations and enterprise systems. Coordinate activities across business stakeholders, technical teams, project managers, vendors and delivery partners. Translate business requirements into deliverable work programs and delivery priorities. Manage risks, issues, dependencies and stakeholder expectations throughout delivery lifecycles. Provide advice and recommendations to stakeholders on delivery priorities, operational considerations and implementation approaches. Technical Leadership Provide technical leadership and oversight to delivery teams, ensuring solutions align with approved architecture, standards and engineering practices. Drive adoption of technical standards, frameworks and governance processes within Data Engineering delivery teams. Contribute to platform roadmap planning, technical uplift initiatives and continuous improvement activities. Promote modern engineering, operational and delivery practices across the team Qualifications Demonstrated experience leading technology, data or engineering teams in complex enterprise environments. Experience delivering and supporting data platforms, cloud technologies or enterprise systems. Strong stakeholder management and people leadership capability. Experience managing priorities across operational support, project delivery and strategic initiatives. Tertiary qualification in a relevant technology discipline or equivalent demonstrated experience.
