The National Medicines Record Terminology Project Lead is responsible for leading the delivery of the National Medicines Record Terminology project, combining project management leadership with specialist medicines terminology expertise. The position provides authoritative advice on the Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT) and related national medicines datasets, while leading project activities for the enhancement of the National Clinical Terminology Service to support the medicines data requirements of the National Medicines Record program. This role leads complex project delivery, stakeholder engagement and industry consultation across government agencies, software vendors, peak bodies, healthcare providers and consumers. Reporting to the Director, Clinical Terminology, the position is accountable for ensuring project outcomes are delivered through robust governance, effective risk management, strong stakeholder relationships and evidence-based decision-making that supports national digital health priorities, interoperability and clinical safety. Key duties and responsibilities Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of the National Medicines Record Terminology project, ensuring project objectives, timelines, budgets, risks and dependencies are effectively managed. Provide expert advice on the Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT), Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), National Product Catalogue (NPC) and other national medicines datasets. Build, influence and sustain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, software vendors, peak bodies, healthcare professionals, consumers and industry representatives to support successful project delivery and adoption. Lead and facilitate workshops, consultations and stakeholder engagement activities to gather requirements, build consensus, manage change and support implementation outcomes. Develop and maintain project artefacts, integrated project schedules, governance documentation, briefing materials, reports, executive submissions and consultation records to support informed decision-making and delivery assurance. Provide strategic advice to senior executives and governance bodies, contributing to the development of policies, frameworks, change approaches and digital health capabilities that support interoperability, information sharing and safer medicines management. Expert knowledge and demonstrated practical experience with the Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT) and extensive knowledge of national medicines datasets, including the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) and National Product Catalogue (NPC). Weighting: 25% 2. Demonstrated experience leading and delivering complex digital health projects in multi-vendor environments, including development and management of integrated project schedules, risks, dependencies and deliverables. Weighting: 25% 3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of executive briefings, ministerial correspondence, governance papers, reports and strategic recommendations. Weighting: 25% 4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex information, data and technical concepts into clear and actionable advice. Weighting: 20% 5. Relevant tertiary qualifications in health informatics, pharmacy, information management, project management, digital health or a related discipline. Weighting: 5% Desirable criteria Weighting 1. Proven ability to lead stakeholder engagement, industry consultation and workshop facilitation across government, clinical, consumer and vendor stakeholder groups. Weighting: 40% 2. Experience managing procurement activities, contracts and financial administration requirements within a government or complex organisational environment. Weighting: 20% 3. Demonstrated understanding of the national digital medicines ecosystem, including electronic prescribing, real-time prescription monitoring and interoperability standards.
