This includes developing user experiences for generative AI solutions, decision-support tools, analytical products and business applications used across the Agency. The APS6 Software Engineer (Front-end) exercises initiative and sound judgement when translating business requirements into practical technical solutions. The role works closely with Data Scientists, AI Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, Business Analysts and stakeholders to ensure solutions are user-focused, scalable and maintainable. While primarily a front-end role, the position will collaborate closely with backend and AI engineering teams and may contribute to full-stack development activities where required. Key duties and responsibilities Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: • Design, develop and maintain high-quality web applications using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks, including React. • Build intuitive, accessible and responsive user interfaces for AI-enabled, analytical and data-driven applications. • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions. • Design and implement user experiences that support complex workflows, decision-support tools and generative AI applications. • Integrate frontend applications with REST APIs, cloud services and AI/ML platforms, including asynchronous, real-time or streaming interactions. • Contribute to AI-enabled user experiences, including conversational interfaces, document search, citation displays, streaming responses and agent-based workflows. • Develop reusable components, patterns and frontend architecture that support scalable product development across DaSH initiatives. • Apply software engineering best practices including testing, code review, source control, automated CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support discovery activities, proof-of-concepts, pilots and production-ready solutions. • Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement activities within DaSH. • Support the development of solutions that meet Agency accessibility, security, privacy and governance requirements. (NOTE: the key responsibilities of the role are based on current priorities and may change over time) Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. Demonstrated experience developing and shipping production web applications using modern JavaScript and/or TypeScript frameworks, with strong experience in React preferred. 2. Demonstrated ability to own features end-to-end, from requirements gathering and UX decisions through implementation, testing and deployment. 3. Experience building responsive, accessible and user-focused interfaces for complex workflows, analytical products or data-driven applications. 4. Strong understanding of React fundamentals, including component architecture, state management, performance optimisation and frontend testing practices. 5. Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs and asynchronous data services, including real-time or streaming interactions. 6. Experience developing software using modern engineering practices, including Git-based source control, code review, automated testing, and maintaining and optimising CI/CD pipelines to build, test and deploy frontend applications reliably. Desirable criteria 1. Experience building AI-enabled user interfaces, including chat experiences, streaming responses, prompt design, citation displays, document search or agent-based workflows. 2. Familiarity with LLM platforms and APIs such as Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI or Anthropic, and exposure to RAG, vector search or knowledge-grounded AI systems. 3. Exposure to backend development using Python, preferably FastAPI, including API design, authentication and basic data modelling. 4. Experience developing cloud-native or serverless applications on AWS, including services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB and Bedrock, and familiarity with Docker and Infrastructure as Code tools such as CDK or Terraform.
