Azure Engineers

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is seeking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Azure Engineer to deliver and support a range of ICT projects and programs within the AEC’s infrastructure environment. Azure Engineers are central to supporting the modernisation of the AEC’s core electoral ICT systems through the design, build and implementation of secure, reliable and scalable Azure solutions. They are responsible for supporting project teams and leveraging the AEC’s existing Azure services to deliver modular solutions that improve the maturity and resilience of the AEC’s systems. The role is responsible for undertaking very complex and/or sensitive work under broad direction, utilising expertise across a range of Azure infrastructure, cloud engineering, systems integration and technical support activities. Key duties and responsibilities • Working effectively across teams to provide systems expertise that enhances and improves existing solutions, including designing, developing, implementing and testing solutions in line with business requirements and software development standards. • Working collaboratively with other teams to investigate and resolve complex issues relating to infrastructure and infrastructure as code. • Guiding junior engineers, providing technical direction and fostering a collaborative culture. • Owning end-to-end delivery and ensuring reliability, security and maintainability across packages of work. • Ensuring deadlines are consistently met and high-quality technical and design documentation is provided. • Contributing to the provision of on-call support for AEC infrastructure. • Undertaking additional responsibilities during an Electoral Event, including working outside standard business hours where required to support the significant increase in operational activity. • Managing assigned work items as per established Ways of Working, and producing and maintaining appropriate documentation as required. • Performing additional responsibilities as required and directed by the relevant Director/Team Leaders or a delegate. Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing enterprise IT solutions consuming Azure services - including, but not limited to the following: • Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) • Serverless Compute - Azure Functions, Web Apps • Storage – BLOB and File • Integration - Service Bus and Event Hub • Identity - Azure Active Directory (AAD) and Azure B2C • API Management (APIM) • Key Vault • Azure SQL\SQL Managed Instance • Identity Governance • Demonstrated experience in Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines using ARM and/or Bicep templates • Demonstrated experience with managing and migrating solution infrastructure to the Azure platform • Demonstrated knowledge of risk management principles and processes in context of Infrastructure management • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels and influence key stakeholders. 2.
