Drupal Developer

The MDBA is seeking to establish a new contract for a Senior Drupal Developer to provide specialist capability across Drupal development, AWS hosting, platform security and technical debt reduction for the MDBA Website and RiverData platforms. These public-facing services are business-critical digital channels that require ongoing specialist support to remain secure, reliable, accessible and fit-for-purpose. The role supports both the operation of existing platforms and the delivery of strategic digital initiatives that improve user experience, reduce operational risk and strengthen MDBA's digital service capability. Retaining this capability is essential to maintaining service continuity, reducing technical debt, improving deployment reliability and ensuring MDBA can continue to deliver current and future digital priorities. Key duties and responsibilities The Senior Drupal Developer will provide specialist expertise in Drupal development, AWS hosting, DevOps automation, website architecture and platform security to support MDBA's public-facing digital services, including the MDBA Website and RiverData platforms. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop and maintain Drupal-based solutions for the MDBA Website and RiverData platforms. Deliver new website capabilities, including the Basin Plan Review (BPR) Hub and website refresh initiatives. Ensure new functionality is compatible with existing Drupal architecture, custom modules and integrations. Enhance RiverData functionality, user experience and performance. Lead deployment automation, release management and DevOps improvements across development, test and production environments. Maintain and improve AWS-hosted infrastructure, including CloudFront, caching, monitoring and platform security. Investigate and prototype AI-enabled search and content discovery capabilities. Support discovery, design and planning activities for a future Unified Search Portal. Undertake Drupal 12 readiness assessments, compatibility reviews and migration planning. Reduce technical debt and improve platform maintainability, security and operational resilience. Provide technical advice, effort estimates and solution recommendations for future digital initiatives. Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria Weighting 1. Demonstrated experience designing, developing and supporting complex Drupal websites, including custom module development, theming, integrations, upgrades, troubleshooting and implementation of best-practice Drupal solutions. Weighting: 25% 2. Demonstrated experience supporting and administering AWS-hosted web platforms, including CloudFront, EC2, load balancing, caching, monitoring, security, performance optimisation and operational support. Weighting: 25% 3. Demonstrated experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, environment management and release processes to improve platform stability, reduce operational risk and support reliable service delivery. Weighting: 25% 4. Demonstrated experience delivering complex digital initiatives, working collaboratively with business and technical stakeholders, and providing technical leadership to support website enhancements, search capabilities, user experience improvements and strategic platform initiatives.
