Job description

The AI Technical Officer will work within the AI team in the Information Services Branch to support the configuration, testing and delivery of practical AI agents, automation and enterprise AI solutions across Treasury. This role requires hands-on experience with the Microsoft technology stack, particularly Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry and Power Automate. This is a hands-on delivery role suited to a practitioner who can complete defined technical tasks with reasonable autonomy. Working within approved priorities and under the guidance of senior technical and architecture leads, the officer will assist assessed use cases to progress from proof of concept through testing, controlled deployment and operational handover. This role will contribute to Treasury’s AI work across Azure, Microsoft 365 and related services by implementing approved solution designs and established technical patterns. The officer will apply existing governance, cyber security, privacy and information management requirements, maintain appropriate documentation and escalate complex design, risk or policy decisions to senior leads. Key duties and responsibilities Configure, build, test and support AI agents, automations and workflows using approved designs and Microsoft technologies, including Copilot Studio and Power Automate. Complete allocated technical work across discovery, prototyping, testing, deployment and operational support, with guidance from the Senior AI Specialist. Implement approved configurations and integrations across Microsoft services using established patterns, escalating complex requirements to the Senior AI Specialist. Troubleshoot routine agent, workflow, access, connector and authentication issues, seeking support for complex technical problems. Apply established security, privacy and governance requirements, including configuring approved guardrails within Microsoft platform solutions, and promptly escalate exceptions or risks. Work with business and technical teams to clarify requirements, deliver agreed tasks and maintain configuration, testing and support documentation. Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a response to each criterion. Each response is limited to 3000 characters. Essential criteria Weighting 1. Microsoft Platform Solutions Delivery Demonstrated hands-on experience configuring, testing and supporting solutions across the Microsoft technology stack, particularly Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Automate. Experience may include agents, knowledge sources, connectors, actions, approvals, workflow automation and working across controlled development, test and production environments. Weighting: 30% 2. Azure, Microsoft Foundry and Applied AI Experience Practical experience developing or supporting solutions using Azure and Microsoft Foundry. Relevant experience may include agent and prompt configuration, evaluations, content safety testing, retrieval-augmented generation, Azure AI Search, integration services, monitoring or operational support. The candidate must be able to work within approved designs and seek guidance on complex matters. Weighting: 25% 3. Broader Microsoft Stack and Integration Skills Experience configuring or supporting integrations across Azure, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, APIs or approved enterprise data sources. The candidate should be able to troubleshoot routine issues, document findings and implement established technical patterns. Weighting: 20% 4. Secure and Governed Delivery Ability to apply established security, privacy, data protection and governance requirements when delivering AI or automation solutions in the Australian Government or a comparable regulated environment. This includes following approved identity and access, data loss prevention, connector, environment, testing, logging, monitoring, documentation and change-control processes, and escalating exceptions appropriately. Weighting: 15% 5. Collaboration and Communication Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, communicate technical information clearly, maintain fit-for-purpose documentation, organise competing tasks and deliver agreed outcomes with reasonable autonomy and appropriate guidance. Weighting: 10% Desirable criteria 1. Microsoft certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Foundry, Copilot Studio, Power Automate or related Microsoft technologies. 2. Demonstrated experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub, source control, CI/CD and controlled solution deployment. 3. Demonstrated experience with Azure API Management, Azure Monitor, Application Insights or Microsoft Purview.
