Lead Data Systems Data Engineer

Treasury is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design, support and improve enterprise data platforms and analytical environments.  The role will contribute to secure, reliable and supportable data and modelling capabilities, including:  • Designing and maintaining data platforms, data services and analytical environments  • Supporting technologies such as SQL Server, SAS, R, Python and Power BI  • Supporting virtualised and container-based development environments across Windows and Linux  • Deploying and supporting data-related services in Microsoft Azure as a secondary capability  • Automating operational processes and resolving complex platform issues  • Developing solution documentation, procedures and technical guidance  The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with business users, infrastructure, service delivery and cyber security teams to deliver reliable data platform outcomes. Key duties and responsibilities • Design, implement and improve secure and supportable data platforms and analytical environments.  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, data models, integrations and database solutions.  • Administer and support analytical platforms and tools, including SQL Server, SAS, R, Python and Power BI.  • Deploy and support data-related services in Microsoft Azure, following approved architecture, security and change processes.  • Support modelling and development environments using relevant virtualisation, operating system and container technologies.  • Develop scripts and automation to improve deployment, monitoring, testing and operational support.  • Investigate incidents and recurring problems, identify root causes and implement improvements.  • Maintain access controls, platform security and auditable administrative processes.  • Produce clear technical designs, procedures, runbooks and support guidance.  • Provide technical advice, knowledge transfer and stakeholder support.  Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a response to each criterion. Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and supporting secure and reliable enterprise data platforms or analytical environments. 2. Demonstrated data engineering experience across SQL, data modelling, integration, pipelines and performance improvement including Practical experience deploying or supporting data-related services in Microsoft Azure 3. Demonstrated experience supporting analytics technologies such as SAS, R, Python, SQL Server or Power BI. 4. Demonstrated experience with scripting, automation and modern development or platform tooling. 5. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues, undertake root cause analysis and improve operational services. 6. Demonstrated ability to produce clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders. Desirable criteria 1. Demonstrated experience supporting modelling, research or statistical computing environments in government or a large enterprise, specifically specialist platforms such as SAS, RStudio or Posit, G-Cubed or PLEXOS. 2. Demonstrated Experience producing solution designs, testing documentation, sustainment plans or platform roadmaps in an Australian Government security and service-management environment. 3. Relevant qualifications or certifications in data engineering, Microsoft Azure, databases, DevOps or related technologies. 4. Demonstrated Experience working in an AI-enabled and integrated workplace.
