Job description
The APS6 Data Analyst plays a key role in enhancing business decision-making with data. Working with stakeholders to understand their needs, conducting research and extracting relevant data, performing analyses, and delivering reports to technical and non-technical audiences. This includes designing and building data models that provide actionable insights to inform product enhancement strategy, and other Agency initiatives. Requires strong problem-solving skills and strong foundational skills that enable flexible work on problems with varying scale, data types and analysis approaches. An undergraduate degree in science, health, and/or a data-related field is required. Postgraduate training and experience analysing health data is highly regarded. Familiarity with R is desirable, in addition to experience with Azure Databricks. Key outcomes for this role include: Delivering high-quality data analysis to support Agency planning, policy, product and operational decision making. Collecting, preparing, analysing and interpreting data from a range of health, digital, operational and administrative sources. Designing and maintaining datasets, data models, measures and indicators that support monitoring, reporting and evidence-informed decision-making. Preparing reports, briefs, visualisations and presentations that translate data into clear and practical insights for a range of audiences. Supporting research, evaluation and continuous improvement activities through robust analytical methods. Performing quality assurance and documentation activities to support the accuracy, reliability and integrity of analytical outputs. Working effectively with internal stakeholders to understand information needs, define analytical questions and support consistent reporting approaches. Contributing to an evidence-informed culture by promoting high-quality data use, analytical rigour and clear communication of insights across the Agency. Key duties and responsibilities The Data Analyst will: • Extract, clean, transform and analyse data from a range of Agency, health system, digital product and operational sources to support evidence-based decision-making. Position Description – Data Analyst Page 2 of 4 OFFICIAL Australian Digital Health Agency OFFICIAL • Apply appropriate quantitative, statistical and analytical methods to identify patterns, trends, risks, opportunities and limitations in data. • Develop fit-for-purpose datasets, data models, measures and indicators to support monitoring, reporting, research, evaluation and performance analysis. • Prepare clear analytical products, including reports, dashboards, briefs, visualisations and presentations, that translate data into practical insights for technical and non-technical audiences. • Support research, evaluation and performance monitoring activities by compiling evidence, testing assumptions, analysing outcomes and documenting methods in a clear and defensible way. • Undertake data validation, quality assurance and evidence review activities to support the accuracy, reliability and integrity of analytical outputs. • Maintain and improve analytical methods, reusable code, reporting processes, documentation and data products in line with Agency standards and good practice. • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to understand information needs, define analytical questions, interpret findings and support consistent measurement and reporting approaches. • Contribute to a culture of evidence-based decision-making by promoting high-quality data use, analytical rigour and clear communication of insights across the Agency Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. Essential criteria 1. Experience undertaking data analysis, reporting, research or evaluation activities, including the application of quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. 2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, prepare, analyse and interpret information from multiple sources. 3. Ability to develop and maintain datasets, data models, measures, indicators or other analytical products that support evidence-informed decision-making. 4. Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with a range of internal and external stakeholders. 5. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefs and presentations for diverse audiences 6. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently under limited direction and deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes. Desirable criteria 1. Experience in digital health, health data analytics, public policy, health services research or a related field. 2. Qualifications in statistics, data analytics, public health, computer science, economics or a related discipline. 3.
